Wolves v Leicester Match Report
Foxes move out of bottom three with first away win – By Matt Ballard
Leicester City may have finally got their season on track with a win against fellow falterers Wolves.
Wolves started the better side, with Diego Costa forcing a save out of Ward; one of nine shots the Wanderers had in the opening 20 minutes.
The foxes took advantage of this in 11 first-half minutes. Firstly through a sweet strike from Youri Tielemans going in off the post, then a lovely move between Dewsbury hall and Barnes allowed the latter to slot the ball home past Jose Sa, putting the visitors in complete control.
Ward continued to keep Wolves at bat, with a save from Podence. Making it four clean sheets in 5 for the Welsh international.
Maddison continued to knock on Gareth Southgate’s door ahead of the world cup next month with a low finish from 18 yards out to put the foxes in cruise control and three to the good. With Vardy putting the icing on the cake with a finish to a castangne cross to seal it.
It was also a lesson in efficiency, with City scoring all of their shots on target compared to Wolves, who spurred over 20 opportunities.
After the boss Brendan Rodgers said: “Collectively, we were very, very good. We carried a threat, and defensively we were excellent. Our pressing has been very good and all the goals were fantastic.”
“Confidence will grow and we’ll get better. The concentration is better, everybody is focused, pressing at the right time and forcing teams into mistakes. Then we know we have the quality in the final third.”
The result lifts them above Wolves, and into 16th but they’ll be hoping for anything when they face Manchester city next which is on Saturday at 12:30.
