Leicester City closing in on Nico Gonzalez - FootItalia.com

Could it be another quiet transfer window for The Foxes yet again – Transfer news by Lewis Royle

Since letting Wesley Fofana go to Premier League giants Chelsea back in 2022 for a staggering fee of £75 million, Leicester seem to be overwhelmed with what do to with the money.

In the summer, we saw the introduction of centre-back Wout Faes for £15 million as a replacement for Fofana.

However, in this window, they are yet to announce any major signings or departures, despite being linked with several talented prospects. One of which being 24-year-old winger Nicolas Gonzalez from Italian club Fiorentina who has two goals in eight games this season already.

Only averaging 32 minutes a game this campaign so far, perhaps he isn’t happy with minutes and wants something better, the top tier of English football being the perfect place.

It was said The Blues agreed personal terms with Gonzalez, but aren’t the only club after him with Toon giants Newcastle United also sharing an interest.

Moreover, it’s the price that appears to be the issue. La Viola are asking for £35 million, but City’s initial offer was unfortunately £5 million short. The magpies are in no trouble with providing financially, but will the youngster be under the reigns of Eddie Howe by the end of January?

The price fluctuation from the Fiorentina side of things implies they don’t want to leg Nicolas go easily, so it may well be a summer move in the making.

It’s interesting the two clubs intrigued in the player are Newcastle and Leicester as Allan Saint- Maximin and Harvey Barnes are unreal players that have previously proved to be reliable, however another winger in the mix could make for good competition among both squads and increase squad depth, which is needed for Rodgers men.

Despite the promise of the transfer, the form of The Foxes hasn’t been inviting of late, and with Eddie Howe’s lads pushing for a Champions League place, the future for Gonzalez may be within St James’ Park.
