Leicester City confident tying down Manchester United target Youri Tielemans

Gossip & News by Lewis Royle

After arriving at Leicester on a half-season long loan from AS Monaco in January 2019, Youri Tielemans has gone from strength to strength. The switch was made permanent that summer and the Belgian International has gone on to achieve a wealth of success, helping his side to glory in both the Community Shield and 2021 FA Cup final- in which he dispatched a scintillating strike from range to lift the trophy. However, is his time up in the East Midlands?

Since signing for a fee in the region of £40 million after a six-month loan spell, Tielemans has been the spine to Leicester’s midfield. Whether he plays box to box, defensive, or attacking, you can always rely on him to get the job well done. His technical gift on the ball and his immense footballing brain have attracted attention from some big clubs over the years, so how come he is still with Leicester?

Having been on the cards for around a year, there is a chance that Youri makes way this January with it being a now or never moment to make money from the talented player. Moreover, I feel it is more likely that he actually leaves at the end of the season. On a financial basis, The Foxes do not need the funds by any stretch in January, with money coming off the books at the end of the year with out of contract players.

Despite the fact the 25-year old’s contract does expire in 2023, the club believes that he may sign an extension in the summer. However, the previous interest from Arsenal shows that there is the possibility of his head being turned by bigger clubs, and they will no doubt have to beat off potential suitors in the race to confirm Tielemans’ signature.

Furthermore, the midfield maestro has been kept busy this winter playing for his country in the Qatar World Cup. Despite being surrounded by several world class players, it was a shock exit for Belgium, as a goalless draw with fellow European companions Croatia sealed their exit. The Leicester man only mustered a total 93 minutes in all three group games, and has since been slammed for his poor performances, making only one start, with Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Leander Dendoncker and Everton youngster Amadou Onana seemingly preferred.

The 2022 World Cup will not be something Youri will look back on with many positives, and will no doubt be happy to wear the Royal blue Leicester shirt once again later this month. Meanwhile, as Brendan Rogers’ men look to rise up the table during the second half of the season, the next six months appear decisive to Tielemans’ Leicester career.
