What’s going on up Top News & Gossip by Tom Shapland

Leicester City currently sit 14th in the Premier League table after failing to win in any of their last five games, more is to be expected from the team and manager which begs the question, what is being done up top?

Leicester City’s current CEO is Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha who on Forbes’ 2020 World’s Billionaires List was one of the five youngest billionaires in Asia. Since last summer Top has invested £27.2 million into transfers and with £71.40 million in the same time period, which is concerning with key departures to players such as Fofana and Schmeichel. It’s no secret that Leicester’s defending has been key to their downfall this season. With Amartey still starting at the back and Rodger’s not trusting Soyuncu (who seems half-way out the door) it’s clear that a new centre back to partner Wout Faes is required. This January Victor Kristiansen has arrived from FC Copenhagen for a £14 million pound fee; however, the left back is not the only signing that is required this window and time is running out.

Although it’s evident that the Foxes depleted squad needs new additions, this is not the only issue that should be being asked in the board room. The conversation of Rodgers departure is a real possibility. However, it seems that the board are dismissing this idea. According to The Athletic, the owners have kept faith in Rodgers before due to everything he achieved over the last four years. They feel they have not been able to give him the support he needs in the last two transfer windows. The aim is to back Rodgers in this window and keep the faith.

What does Rodgers have to say about the whole situation? The manager spoke out after the 2-2 draw to Brighton. “They were obviously going to come onto us and disappointingly for us, we should have done better with the ball. But it’s a constant thing that I talk about. We need to have more quality.” Striking words from the manager as he calls for ‘more quality’. Is he sending a message to his board or is it just a message to his players? Surely the return of James Maddison will help add a bit of quality for the Foxes, but being so reliant on him, Top definitely needs to splash out on strenghtening the squad.

Leicester will now travel to take on Walsall in the fourth round of the FA Cup this Saturday, kick-off at 12.30pm BST. The Foxes fans need a bit of excitement back and progressing in the cup could be a great way to do that, a big performance is needed, and it’s needed now for Rodgers and his men.
