Transfer deadline day mayhem – By Lewis Royle

Following Leicester’s unfortunate relegation to the Championship last season, finishing 18th
place in the Premier League, changes were bound to be made.

During this summer in 2023, 11 players left the King Power. There are several big names that
have made way, such as James Maddison, Youri Tielemans, and Harvey Barnes.

Maddison, who accumulated 43 goals and 32 assists in the Premier League during his five year
stint with the Blues, has signed for London side Tottenham Hotspur, for a fee of around £50
million. He is already proving his worth, with two assists on his debut against Brentford, and
putting in some stellar performances in the middle of the park.

Tielemans, who had previously been rumoured to leave the club on many occasions, finally left
on a free transfer this summer, and is now playing for fellow midlands outfit, Aston Villa.
Barnes, who struggled with injuries during his time at Leicester, has signed for Toon Giants,
Newcastle United, for around £44 million.

The other eleven players who have been shifted consist of 24-year-old George Hirst, who has
signed for Ipswich for just over £1 million after having a loan spell there last campaign. Jonny
Evans has signed for Manchester United on a free, along with Caglar Soyuncu who has gone to
Atletico Madrid for free, and Daniel Amartey, who has also signed on a free for Turkish side
Besiktas.

Ayoze Perez has joined Spanish side Real Betis on a free transfer, and most recently, Timothy
Castagne has signed for Fulham for around £13 million.

Lastly, Nampalys Mendy and Ryan Bertrand have departed and have currently been left with no
club.

In terms of the new players who have entered the club, from two Premier League teams, Harry
Winks has arrived at the King Power from Spurs, with Conor Coady from Wolves, for a
combined fee of around £20 million.

Forward, Stephy Mavididi has signed for around £8 million from French Champions Montpellier.
Goalkeeper Mads Hermansen has already settled in nicely, starting every game, when not injured, of the season so far following his £7 million move from Brondby IF.

Yunus Akgun has just signed on loan for around 500k from Galatasaray and will hope to make
an impact very soon. Also on loan are Man City and Chelsea academy graduates Callum Doyle
and Cesare Casadei.

From the Leicester City academy, we also have Wanya Marcal, Kasey McAteer and Jakub
Stolarcyzk, who made his senior debut between the sticks in a 2-0 victory over Tranmere
Rovers in the second round of the league cup.

Leicester currently sit at the top of the Championship table, winning all four of their opening
fixtures. To enhance the development of the squad and maintain good form, I think the addition
of another academy graduate on loan for example James McAtee would strengthen the midfield
in skill and depth. He proved his worth at Sheffield United last season and another loan move
could do him good, especially if Wilfred Ndidi is to leave. Victor Kristiansen is set to head to
Bologna, just six months after joining the club. The full-back is yet to be included in a matchday
squad by Enzo Maresca since the Italian’s arrival in the summer.

I think overall The Foxes transfer window this summer has been and will finish a very successful
one, with £105 million going out, and £35 million being spent as per Transfermarkt, and will
hopefully ignite a promotion charge back to the top flight.
