THE BIG DAY IS FINALLY HERE
It’s a bit like waiting for Christmas Day for most Foxes… Yes we have had some fun in the close season watching Harry Maguire lead the 3 Lions to withering heights in the World Cup…. How close could we come before the Tottenham lads bottled it …. AGAIN !!
Only kidding, the lads all did us proud out there and Gareth Southgate has shown how youth and enthusiasm can reach the top, something which Claude Puel seems to be applying in the pre season at Leicester.
Anyway, the BIG day is here ! Tonight, Leicester City kick off the Premier League 2018/19 season with a trip to Old Trafford to take on Man Utd. Both teams seem a little unsettled after the pre season, most Foxes fans will struggle to correctly predict the starting 11 for tonight, and Jose has kept Utd fans guessing as to who will or wont start.
Most of the World knows that Leicester City won the Premier League in 2016 at 5000:1 perhaps a feat which will never be achieved again by any team and it is interesting to again look at the odds before this season starts. Most pundits simply don’t know what to make of our chances for the up coming season, and to be honest, after talking with hundreds of Foxes fans, we have no idea either.
It has been clear that one of our Title winners, Mr Mahrez, had wanted to go to pastures new for over 12 months. He had developed from a pocket money player into PFA Player of the Season, and in all honesty wants to win more silverware, which he will do at Manchester City. The Leicester fans question has been to we splash the cash and get in some “big names” or do we reinvest in more young and up and coming talent.
It can be a gamble, but it appears Claude Puel is indeed looking to find the next “Mahrez”, and we have several players who could fill his boots…. But they are very skilful boots to fill. One such player , a totally different type to Mahrez, is young James Maddison, bought in from Norwich in the transfer window, we have seen the youngster play in preseason, and we kid you not, he looks like he could be the next David Beckham… yes you heard it here first, we think in 12 months’ time, we will be going through the same things where the “big” clubs are again poaching our developing talent.
Puel has played Maddison in most of the pre season friendly’s and he has stepped straight into the role, taking the lead when it comes to all deadball situations, and will clearly create plenty of assists for Vardy which will be critical now Mahrez has gone.
Maddison shows a great touch on the ball, but more importantly shows an awareness of his surroundings and a great footballing brain, which at his tender age offers us bags of potential.
We call it the Leicester City Rollercoaster, in the last 10 years we have played in League 1, we have won the Premier League and got to the quarter finals of the Champions League… so the next 10 years could see us do anything, including maybe back down to League 1, or Win the League again!
