Leicester 2-2 Brighton
Leicester City go into the quarterfinals of the EFL Cup after beating Brighton 4-2 penalties. This came after an action packed 90 minutes which ended 2-2 at the King Power Stadium.
It was Brendan Rodgers’ side who opened the scoring. Harvey Barnes scored in the sixth minutes as he capitalised on a poor pass from Jason Steele.
This was followed by two goals in added time to the first half. First Adam Webster grabbed Brighton’s equaliser just two minutes before Ademola Lookman regained the Foxes advantage.
Mwepu got the Seagulls level again on the 71st minute. He met Marc Cucurella’s cross and finished it with a looping header into the top corner.
Despite scoring his first goal for the South Coast side, it was a bad night for him. He ended up missing the decisive penalty that saw Graham Potter’s men knocked out of the competition.
Danny Ward made a strong save down to his left to deny the Zambian. Neal Maupay also missed his penalty early in the shootout as his crashed against the crossbar.
This result sees Leicester progress into the next round of the EFL Cup. This means they could draw big sides such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. However, no side will want to draw the Foxes as they are now four unbeaten and look to have refound their stride.
