Our Predicted 2022/23 League Positions!
Alex Merson has written his thoughts and views on how the Premier League 2022/23 season will end, with some strong opinions! Do you agree with Alex?!
1 – Arsenal
After 20 games, Arsenal sit 5 points clear at the top with a game in hand of chasers Manchester City, and currently on track for 95 points in the season. With Man City not looking as fierce as they have previous years, Arteta and his team could bring home the title for the first time in 18 years. They still need to face City twice before the season ends, but with the way they have been playing, they look good enough to challenge them in the two games and get some important results.
2 – Man City
Pep’s side have had a tough season for their standards, dropping points all over the place, and now with an investigation into the club, it is only going to make it worse as there are talks of exclusion from the league and points deduction. Even if that doesn’t happen, they have a big ask to chase Arsenal down, but its Man City, so anything is possible, especially with record breaker Erling Haaland up front.
3 – Man Utd
To think Manchester United would currently be sitting in 3rd spot after their start to the season after losing heavily to Brighton and Brentford would be generous, but Erik Ten Hag has proved to be a brilliant addition to United, and the squad has shown brilliance this season. Marcus Rashford is playing some of his best football and players who looked to be on their way out like Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are playing great football, 3rd spot for United is a huge step to being one of the best teams in England once again.
4 – Newcastle
With just one loss this season due to a deep injury time goal, Newcastle’s season has been incredible to say the least. Despite many draws that could cost them, if they keep their form up the sky is the limit, and the Geordies have every chance to reach the Champions League for the first time since 2003.
5 – Spurs
Spurs have struggled for form this season, and for me the chase they have for Champions League football will come short. Harry Kane has been the carrying force for them, but an injury to him will give them all kinds of problems, and I can’t see them keeping up with the race.
6 – Liverpool
Despite being one of the country’s most successful teams over the last 5 years, this season has been a complete shakeup for Liverpool, currently sitting in 10th spot, and closer to the relegation zone than a Champions League spot. However, if they can begin to find some much-needed form, they may be able to salvage a decent finish, and wipe the season off as they look to secure some big signings to help push to the top again, including well linked Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.
7 – Brighton
Brighton are one of, if not the best run club in the whole of England, and their hard work has paid off this season as it has finally clicked. Losing Graham Potter to Chelsea looked like it would hurt, however Roberto De Zebri has pulled the squad together to perform week in week out, and European Football could be on the card for the seagulls.
8 – Chelsea
Chelsea’s season has been rough to say the least, and they have struggled to find any type of form over the season. With the signings of Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez and more they have strengthened in January, however it is going to take a lot to turn around this team in the second half of the season.
9 – Brentford
Similar to Brighton, Brentford can be seen as one of the best run clubs in England, and it has paid off this year as they currently sit in 7th spot despite being tipped by many for relegation. Thomas Frank has been one of the best managers in the league this year, and despite we see them finishing lower than they currently are sitting, 9th spot is still an incredible finish for the bees.
.
10 – Fulham
As normally referred to as a ‘yo-yo’ club, this season for Fulham they have shown that they belong in this league, mainly thanks to target man Aleksandr Mitrovic, who has shown his capability to be a top striker in this league. Also, the signings of Andreas Perriera and Joah Pahliniha have been key, and if they can keep them next season, they will once again be a mid-table side, if not maybe even better.
11 – Wolves
Despite an awful start to the season, Wolves looked to have turned their fortunes around after bringing in a top manager in Julen Lopetegui, and signings some key names in January. Wolves aren’t the same team who was looking to reach European competitions a few years ago, however they are too good to be stuck in a relegation scrap.
12 – Aston Villa
Just like Wolves, Villa’s poor start to the season was turn around after bringing in Unai Emery from Villarreal, and since then Villa have looked like a better team all over the pitch, defensively there is problems, but they will have enough to continue being a mid-table team in this league.
13 – Leicester
After a tough start, things have looked better and better for Leicester throughout the season, and after a decent January window bringing in the likes of Tete and Harry Souttar, the team will start to look more like Leicester again. 13th won’t be a great finish by any means, however for how poor of a start it was, fans will have to be happy. Whether or not it is good enough for Rodgers to keep his job is another question.
14 – Crystal Palace
Palace will be more than happy with the job Viera is doing at the helm, as he is bringing in young talent to make the difference, and in a few years’ time this Palace team could be very scary, however for now it is expected to be another finish lower down the table, but still respectable enough to keep fans somewhat happy.
15 – West Ham
David Moyes’ spot as West Ham manager is in the air, and I can see him being sacked before the end of the year. With Rice expected to leave in the summer, the Hammers are in real danger of relegation next season.
16 – Nottingham Forest
When bringing in 30 (yes, 30!) signings in a season, it is always going to be hard to get the team to gel, no matter how good the talent is. And so far, we have seen some glimpses of excellence from Forest, however for the most part, it has looked shaky at best. They certainly have the talent to stay in this league, and if they do that, it will all be about building and becoming a respectable team in the Premier League.
17 – Everton
Sean Dyche’s start at Goodison Park could not have been better, defeating league leaders Arsenal in a convincing performance, however the squad is not at the level to really kick on and push into the middle of the table. Everton stay up, but once again just by the skin of their teeth.
18 – Leeds United
The recent sacking of Jesse Marsch may have come as a surprise to some, but there is no denying their league form isn’t where it should be considering how much he was backed by the board. Leeds fall back into the Championship; however, I can’t imagine it won’t be long until they are back in the Premier League again.
19 – Bournemouth
Some good results for Bournemouth this year have given them a chance of survival, however they just don’t seem to have enough to hit a run and stay up, its back to the Championship for Bournemouth in my opinion.
20 – Southampton
Nathan Jones’ appointment has not gone well, they have talent with the likes of James Ward-Prowse, Bella-Kotchap and more, but despite reaching the EFL cup semi-final, they don’t seem to have enough to keep themselves in the Premier League.
