Leicester City 1-1 Spartak Moscow Match Report

Leicester’s poor form continues in Europe as they drop more points, this time at home to Spartak Moscow. However, it could have been very different.

Early on, Kelchi Iheanacho found Boubakary Soumaré on the edge of the box. His deflected strike then cannoned off the crossbar.

After a goalless first half, it was the Russian side who took the lead through a former Premier League player. Victor Moses, league winner with Chelsea, scored the opener. He got on to the end of Mikhail Ignatov’s cross to head home from six yards out, their only shot on target in the match.

Within eight minutes, the home side had equalised. Ayoze Pérez’s flicked the ball on from a corner for Daniel Amartey to finish it off.

Later on, Ndidi plays a ball through for Iheanacho before he is taken down by the aforementioned Moses. This meant Leicester legend and substitute Jamie Vardy had the chance to give his side the lead. However, he missed the penalty.

Even later on, they had another chance to take the lead. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall got on the end of a cross and put a header towards goal, but it hit Iheanacho. The Nigerian then tried to finish the chance before he hit the post.

Leicester failed to take their chances and paid the price. This puts Leicester third in their Europa League group, two points behind leaders Napoli. They now play Leeds United on Sunday.
