Leicester City vs Leiga Warsaw Report by Ethan Farmer
Leicester 3-1 Legia Warsaw
Leicester City get convincing win to top Group C going into the final matchday of the Europa League group stage.
The Foxes knew what was on the line and came to play. They started the game with attacking intent and got their breakthrough just 11 minutes in.
Harvey Barnes’ shot got deflected into Patson Daka’s path to give the hosts the lead – the Zambian fifth of the competition this season.
Just ten minutes, Brendan Rodgers’ side had doubled their lead, this time through James Maddison. The Englishman repaid his manager’s faith for recalling him into the squad with a goal after turning inside the penalty box before a smart finish.
Wilfred Ndidi proceeded to give away an unnecessary penalty within five minutes of Leicester’s second. This gave Mahir Emreli the chance to convert from the penalty spot, but Kasper Schmeichel saved it. Unfortunately for him, he parried it perfectly into the path for Filip Mladenovic who tapped home.
The Nigerian made up for his mistake after a bullet head from Maddison’s corner in the 33rd minute. This meant Leicester went into half time with a 3-1 lead.
Despite there being no goals in the second half, Leicester continued to create chances. It was a comfortable victory after a bad run of form. This was a real statement victory and a dominant performance, both of which were needed.
This result not only sends Leicester top of their Europa League group but also ends their four-match winless run that started after their cup win on penalties against Brighton. Their next match is Watford on Sunday.
