Foxes Fall Defeat at Anfield by Matt Ballard
Leicester have fallen to a 2-0 defeat at Anfield due to two close-range strikes by Portuguese striker Diogo Jota, extending their winless run in the league to 3 games and over 22 years away at the Merseysiders.
The Foxes only chance of any substance was a James Maddison shot, which forced Alisson to make a save and turn in behind for a corner that came to nothing, and whilst second best for the majority of the game, this was a much-improved side from the one that unfortunately played in Nottingham on Sunday.
The captain returned and showed just how important he is, which great stops from a returning Mohammed Salah and Liverpool’s new signing from Porto Luis Diaz. But it is hard to judge where Leicester are due to long term injuries to significant players.
The biggest problem is the defending from set-pieces, something Rodgers suffered with at his time at Liverpool, including penalties. The Foxes have given up 18 set-piece goals this season which is a massive area for concern.
After the game, the boss said:” I thought we were right in it till the 86th minute when they got a second; we’ve played them (Liverpool) three times now, and every time it has been close, including beating them at the king power in December, so it shows we have the quality.”
Leicester won’t have much time to dwell on this defeat; however, they face West Ham on Sunday, who are vying for top 4 and champions league football next year, followed by the Europa conference league tie vs Randers at home as well.
