Embarrassment To The Club… Report by Matt Ballard!
Holders crash out after lacklustre display!
FA cup Holders Leicester have been knocked out in the 4th round of the FA cup to east midlands rivals Nottingham Forest, losing 4-1.
The Foxes went with a strong line-up at the City Ground, the most notable absentee being club captain Kasper Schmeichel being left out for regular cup keeper Danny Ward.
Leicester arguably started the better of the two sides, with Kelechi Iheanacho spurning a half-chance wide just after the five-minute mark, but then after that came 10 minutes that ruined Leicester’s chance of retaining the trophy they won 9 months ago.
Philip Zinckernagal responded first to a back-post header to poke past Danny Ward into the net; within a minute, it was 2. A wayward backpass from Daniel Amartey was intercepted by Brennen Johnson, who poked it under Ward.
The Foxes were reeling at this point, and a header from Joe Worrell made it three and had Forest in dreamland. A well-taken goal by the blues number 14 gave a sense of hope, but the damage had already been done, and Djed Spence added insult to injury just past the hour mark to ensure Forest would be hosting Huddersfield in the next round.
Boss Brenden Rodgers was rightfully fuming, saying that ‘’time could be up for many players we saw today.’’
Adding: ‘’too many players think they are top-level, but they are not.’’ Rodgers refused to name anyone, but it wasn’t hard to see who he meant based on performance. The continuing poor form of Caglar Soyuncu will worry him as well, especially with Johnny Evans out until April at the earliest.
Next up for Leicester is just the small matter of Liverpool away on Thursday; let’s hope we can get a repeat of the result we saw at the King Power back in December.
