Brentford Vs Leicester City Preview

Leicester travel down to London following just one victory in their last seven league games. This run consists of three draws and two losses. This form will definitely have Brendan Rodgers concerned.

The Foxes aren’t used to a slow start to the season. Under Rodgers, Leicester start strong and tail off towards the end to a fifth-placed finish. The Northern Irish manager has a task on his hands to get their domestic season going.

At the time of writing, he is the bookies fourth favourite to be the first manager sacked. Despite this, the former Swansea manager has been linked with the Newcastle job and even with Barcelona.

At the King Power though, some big names are linked as Rodgers’ replacement. Lucien Favre, Frank Lampard and Andrea Pirlo have all been suggested as Rodgers’ successor.

But Rodgers does have pedigree against Brentford having knocked them out of the FA Cup twice in the last two seasons. In fact, Brentford haven’t beat Leicester in their last eight matches, losing seven of them. The Bees’ last win against Leicester came back in 1953.

Predicted line-up (4-2-3-1):

Goalkeeper – Kasper Schmeichel

The Danish goalkeeper has been number one for the Foxes since joining in the summer of 2011. He has built up a reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the league.

Right-back – Ricardo Pereira

Pereira will be looking to impress at right-back after Castagne’s form and James Justin returning from an ACL injury. The former Porto star is one of the best defenders on his day but has competition for his place.

Central Defender – Calgar Söyüncü

With Wesley Fofana out with a long-term, Söyüncü has a lot more responsibility on his shoulders. He will most likely be one of the first names on the team sheet throughout the season.

Central Defender – Jannik Vestergaard

Vestergaard has come in as a strong option for Rodgers. Since his arrival, he as allowed Leicester to play a back three/five with more confidence whilst being able to drop into a back four.

Left-back – Luke Thomas

The Welsh defender has impressed for the Foxes since his debut in July 2020. Thomas has the attributes to be a top defender, just needs the game time.

Defensive Midfielder – Hamza Choudhury

Choudhury started his Leicester career with a bang. However, since he has quietly fallen lower down the pecking order. The Englishmen can still impress if he’s given the game time.

Defensive Midfielder – Wilfred Ndidi

The former Genk midfielder is key to Leicester’s success with his defensive prowess. Ndidi is the linchpin in Leicester’s midfield, especially without Boubakary Soumaré.

Right Winger – Ademola Lookman

The Red Bull Leipzig loanee is yet to really impress at the King Power. He is undoubtedly talented, but just needs one good game to hit his form, Brentford could be his time.

Attacking Midfielder – Youri Tielemans

Tielemans could be pushed forward to accommodate Choudhury. The Belgian is very versatile, and his creativity could open Brentford’s defence up with ease.

Left Winger – Harvey Barnes

Barnes’ return from injury last season has been a huge boost for the East Midlands club. His directness on the ball allows Leicester to attack with pace and purpose.

Striker – Jamie Vardy

The Englishmen is ever present for the Foxes despite being 34 years old. Vardy doesn’t seem to age, and his movement and pace is still causing defenders major issues.
