Barnes out… Mavididi to replace him?!
The latest piece of news as you all probably know by now is that Harvey Barnes has officially left Leicester City for a fee of £39 Million + Add ons to Newcastle United. He grew up in Leicester, blasting his way through the academy to his loan move to West Brom Albion in the Championship back in the 2018/19 season, getting 9 goals and 6 assists.
He then moved up to the senior team for The Foxes back in the same season from West Brom, recalled back to Premier League action!
He has had an amazing career so far for Leicester, Making 168 appearances in all competitions in his 4 and half year spell in Leicesters senior squad, scoring 40 goals and getting 29 assists in all competitions.
It’s sad to see him go, but we now need to move on, and the club is looking to line up Stephy Mavididi as his replacement for a long season ahead in the Championship.
So… What do we know so far about Mavididi?
the 25 year old is rumoured to join the Foxes for a fee of around £6-£8 Million from Montpellier in Ligue 1. the Englishman started his career coming up from Arsenal’s youth team, making his senior jump back in 2016 7 years ago as a young 17 year old prospect.
After a few season long loan spells to Charlton, Preston and then back to Charlton again, making a few appearances but and showing the EFL what he is made of, he was sold to Juventus back in 2018/19 season, playing 32 matches in the U23 for the Italian Giants but only 1 senior game for them…
He then got a move to Dijon in Ligue 2 and started to find his feet as a young, hungry player wanting to hit the ground running at senior level. After 28 matches with 8 goals and 1 assist from the French side, he got a move to Montpellier and has been very consistent for the French side!
in his 3 year spell with Montpellier he played 93 matches scoring 21 goals and getting 5 assists in all competitions, which for a winger is pretty good stats!
Will he be announced soon by the club!?
This is what LFTV’s Sam had to say on Stephy…
“In all honesty it is hard to judge him. He has been kicked around by clubs until he joined Montpellier, but he seems to be improving with age. It’s great to see that he has had a very decent time in Ligue 1, but can he do it in the Championship? I hope so. Losing Barnes is a massive blow to the team, a youth academy player who was our top goal scorer last season, but he deserved better than the Championship, so who can blame him. I hope Mavididi comes in and does an awesome job for us, as for me, right now, we need to add more depth to the attack after losing Maddison and now Barnes, hopefully Stephy can come in and be that man, but it’s some tough and unforeseen boots to fill for a very long season in the Championship…”
What do you make to Mavididi coming to Leicester? Is he the RIGHT man for the job?
