Atalanta Bench Warmer to City!?
Leicester City target 26-year-old Ivorian Jeremie Boga amid Lionel Messi comparison Gossip & News by Lewis Royle
With the January transfer window well underway, Leicester look to replace Adeola Lookman for the second time by targeting Atalanta left winger Boga.
After impressing at the King Power on a year long loan from German giants RB Leipzig, Brendan Rogers wanted to make the deal permanent with Lookman, however the Nerazzurri unfortunately snapped him up.
City currently only have Harvey Barnes and Marc Albrighton as natural wingers so a new face in January is vital if they are to improve on the flanks.
Signing Commotion
The first attempt at signing Boga didn’t go ahead due to the deal falling through on deadline day last summer because a final agreement couldn’t be confirmed. Reasoning for this is to be believed that the Italian club wanted only to loan him out with an option to buy, given the difficulty they would have recouping the fee that they paid Sassuolo for the player less than a year ago. The difference this time round being that The Foxes want to sign him on loan.
Who else is interested?
After making just seven appearances and two assists this season in Serie A, averaging 18 minutes a game, the former Chelsea youngster is wanting more, with several other clubs apart from the midlands side noticing Boga’s situation.
Fellow Premier League side AFC Bournemouth have shown interest since New Year’s Day, alongside French Giants Marseille, Valencia, and Fiorentina.
Messi Claim
During his time at Sassuolo, Boga picked up a good run of form, scoring 11 goals in the 2019/20 season under manager Roberto De Zerbi.
The now Brighton gaffer rated the African highly, hence the avid amount of interest for the promising talent.
“Boga arrived here, and he did not know how to link up with his team-mates or score goals, but as far as his ability to beat his man, I would put Messi ahead of him, and then I would have to think about it.”
Promise?
Only time will tell but can Leicester make the much needed signing this January or will another opportunity sadly go amiss.
