4th defeat in a row…
Is the writing on the wall – Match report against forest
by Tom Shapland
Leicester City suffered their fourth successive Premier League defeat on Saturday afternoon, this time at the hands of Nottingham Forest. The Tricky Trees subsequently leapfrogged the Foxes and now sit in 13th place whereas Leicester, 15th place, well below par.
The game started at a high tempo with an atmosphere fitting for a local derby. Leicester’s first chance of the game came through Barnes in the 6th minute, he received the ball on the edge of the box but a loose first touch meant he could only generate a tame shot that was easy for Henderson to retrieve.
It wasn’t long before the winger had another opportunity to put Leicester ahead as in the 14th minute Albrighton played a brilliant ball into the unmarked Barnes who failed to finish from close range.
The first half ended in deadlock with Forest probably looking the better of the two teams. In the second half, Barnes once again failed to finish his dinner as in the 50th minute put a shot wide of the right-hand post from no more than 15 yards out.
With Leicester failing to finish their chances it was only a matter of time before Forest would make them pay and in the 56th minute they did. A well-timed pass from Gibbs-White through to Johnson who beat the offside trap and took it past Ward before slotting it into an empty net.
Forest killed the game in the 85th minute. A tidy outside of the boot pass from Gibbs-White to Johnson again who drove the ball into the bottom left corner. 2-0 Forest, game over.
Brendan Rodgers’ side remain the only team not to have won any points from losing positions in the Premier League this season, losing ALL 12 games in which they’ve been behind in this season, a troubling statistic. It’s also the first time the Foxes have gone on two runs of 4+ defeats in the same league campaign since 2014-15.
The Leicester City manager is now under a lot of pressure from fans to deliver better performances and get results with many calling for the club to take action. Leicester will host Brighton at home in the League next at 3pm on Saturday 21st January. With a tough run of fixtures coming up, it’s an absolute must win for Rodgers and his future.
